Natural detergents have come a long way—but let’s be honest: most of them still fall short on performance. Sure, they have cleaner ingredient lists, but they often lack the power to tackle real-life stains and smells. On the flip side, conventional detergents like Tide, Gain, and Sunlight are strong performers, but they’re packed with questionable chemicals like ethoxylated surfactants, 1,4-dioxane, and synthetic solvents that can be harmful to people and the planet.

At Guests on Earth, we set out to do what most said wasn’t possible: create a truly clean laundry detergent that actually works. We call it clean chemistry with real performance.

Let’s get into what makes it so effective—and what we left out on purpose.

What's Inside: The Science That Cleans Deep

Our formula uses a highly specialized enzyme system and next-generation biosurfactants to tackle dirt, odor, and fabric care with precision.

✅ GLYCOLIPIDS – Next-Gen Biosurfactants

We’re the first to market with such a high concentration of glycolipids—fully sustainable surfactants with an ultra-low carbon footprint. Unlike conventional glucosides (which carry a higher net carbon impact), glycolipids are derived from renewable sources and offer powerful yet gentle cleaning.

✅ DISPERSANCY

Most laundry products rely on heavy, soapy systems that try to penetrate and absorb stains. Our formula does something radically better: dispersancy. We use a custom ingredient that acts like a magnet—lifting stains off fabrics and keeping them suspended in the wash water so they don’t redeposit. This reduces fiber degradation and is nearly impossible to achieve with a natural profile—especially without synthetic acrylates (aka microplastics).

✅ ENZYMES

We use a corrected blend of enzymes that deliver powerful cleaning while protecting the long-term integrity of your fabrics. Each enzyme plays a targeted role:

✔ Cellulase → Restores whites and brightens colors by removing the micro-particles that cause dullness and yellowing.

✔ Alpha-Cellulase → Prevents pilling, keeping fabrics smoother, softer, and more vibrant over time. Pills are hardened fiber clusters that trap dirt and wash out color.

✔ Alpha-Amylase → Breaks down carbohydrate-based stains like pasta sauce, oatmeal, and ice cream.

✔ Protease → Tackles protein-based stains (think sweat, blood, and dairy) that traditional surfactants can’t dissolve.

✔ Lipase → Breaks down fats and oils from skin, sebum, and food—the root of funky odors and greasy marks.

✔ Mannanase → A secret weapon against tricky, gel-like stains from foods like salad dressing, jam, and pie filling.

Together, these enzymes don’t just clean the surface—they disassemble the complex bio-films of dirt, sweat, and bacteria that cling to fabrics.

✅ RINSE-OFF TECHNOLOGY

Many conventional detergents rely on free fatty acids—cheap, soap-like ingredients that deposit on clothes and can cause irritation or even acne. Our formula is free of these residues. Instead, we use a custom rinse-off system that ensures no soapy buildup is left behind on your fabrics. Clothes, sheets, and towels feel truly clean—never coated.

What We Left Out: For Your Skin, Your Clothes, and the Planet

A lot of “natural” or “low-tox” brands still include fillers and stabilizers that can irritate the skin, damage fabrics, or leave behind a chemical footprint. Here’s what you won’t find in our formula:

❌ No Propylene Glycol (PG)

A known irritant that 10% of people are allergic to. Commonly used as a fragrance solvent and stabilizer, PG is found in up to 20% of laundry pods. We don’t use it—period.

❌ No MEA, DEA, or TEA

These solvents are commonly used to boost alkalinity and degreasing power but come with health risks. They’re even banned in some sanitizer applications. We left them out.

❌ No Ethoxylates or 1,4-Dioxane

Ethoxylated surfactants can create 1,4-dioxane as a byproduct—a known carcinogen. Many popular detergents contain both. Ours contains neither.

❌ No Alkylbenzene Sulfonates (LAS)

These petroleum-derived surfactants contain residual benzene—a Group A carcinogen. We use safer, plant-based alternatives like methyl ester sulfonate (MES).

❌ No Sulfonic Acids or Free Fatty Acids

Common in conventional detergents and some "eco" products, these ingredients can raise pH levels, clog fabric, and cause irritation. We use a carefully balanced formula that cleans and rinses completely.

❌ No PEGs or Parabens

Obvious no-gos for us. PEGs are ethoxylated, and parabens are outdated preservatives with known health concerns.

Smart Chelation = Cleaner Rinse, Cleaner Machine

Most detergents use synthetic chelators like EDTA to soften water and lift minerals. But EDTA bioaccumulates in waterways and disrupts ecosystems.

We use a smarter, cleaner system:

• Itaconic acid copolymer and amphoteric surfactants that self-chelate

• Leaves no residue on clothes or in your washer

• Prevents mildew and musty smells in your machine over time
